The three stages of every casino withdrawal
When you press "withdraw", your money goes through three separate stages. Knowing which one you're in tells you whether a delay is normal.
- Pending: the casino holds your request for a set period, from 0 to 72 hours depending on the site. The best casinos have no pending period at all.
- Processing: the casino's payments team, or an automated system, checks your request: verification status, bonus terms, security flags. On a first withdrawal this can include identity documents.
- Transfer: the approved money moves through your payment method. This takes minutes for Trustly, PayPal and Visa Fast Funds, and up to several working days for a standard bank transfer.
Most complaints about "slow" payment methods are really about the first two stages. A PayPal withdrawal is quick, but if the casino has a 72-hour pending period, you'll still wait three days.

Why your first withdrawal takes longest
UK casinos must verify your identity before you can gamble, but many ask for extra documents, or check your payment method, when you first withdraw. If you haven't uploaded ID and proof of address yet, your first payout will wait until you have. After that, withdrawals to the same method are usually much quicker. Our KYC guide lists what you'll need.
Seven ways to get paid faster
- Verify your account straight away, not when you've won.
- Use a fast method from the start: Trustly, Pay by Bank, PayPal or a card with Fast Funds.
- Withdraw to the method you deposited with, because the closed-loop rule will insist on it anyway.
- Finish or forfeit any active bonus before requesting a withdrawal.
- Check the casino's processing hours. Manual teams may not work weekends.
- Stay within daily and weekly withdrawal limits, or the casino will split your payout.
- Keep your details consistent: the same name and address on your casino, bank and e-wallet accounts.
Weekends, bank holidays and cut-off times
Faster Payments run 24/7, but casino payments teams don't always. If a casino approves withdrawals by hand, a request made on Friday evening may not be looked at until Monday morning. Automated casinos, many of which feature in our lists, approve smaller withdrawals around the clock. Bank transfers by BACS only move on working days, so bank holidays add a day.
What UK rules say about withdrawals
The Gambling Commission expects licensed casinos to make withdrawing as straightforward as depositing, and not to put obstacles in your way. Following action by the Competition and Markets Authority, UK operators can't keep your deposited money locked behind bonus wagering. You can withdraw your own cash balance, although any bonus will normally be forfeited. Casinos are also not allowed to encourage you to cancel a withdrawal and keep playing.
When a delay becomes a problem
If your withdrawal has gone well beyond the casino's stated times and support can't give you a clear reason, it's time to act. Our withdrawal problems guide takes you from live chat to a formal complaint and then to free, independent dispute resolution.
